Teacosy with attitude

Posted by Helen
Many thanks to everyone who has wished me well. I am improving and today took the dog for a short walk for the first time. It has been nothing like so cold here and the ice was mostly off the road so dog and I enjoyed our brief outing although dog would have liked it be a bit of a longer walk.

In the meantime I have been crocheting and spinning. I wanted a teacosy for my lovely little teapot made by Krithia Roberts, who also makes the Welsh pottery buttons I sell. I have been making a pot of tea and retiring back to bed in the morning , but it has been so cold the teapot has not delivered a third hot cup of tea . So I decided to make a teacosy-needless to say that I had no pattern and was quite confident I could make a cosy without one, but it went a little peculiar and looks as if it is going to jump off the table and go for a walk with the dog. I had fun making it though!

This is my spinning. The paler is is some delicately coloured soft turquoise angora/18.5merino cross with a little throwsters waste spun in. The second is 18.5 micron merino dyed in indigo sulphonate. I am not sure what I am going to ply them both , my original idea was to ply them together but the bright turquoise kills the colour of the paler one which looks grey so tomorrow I will have to have a look through my stash. My plan is a warm cosy hat for a friend but I wish I had some more angora/18.5 merino as it looks and feels so soft against the skin.

Welcome to new followers Carle, Osprey and Jane nice to have you and thank you being interested. I am in the process of writing a long blog about mordanting so I hope in in the next few days I will be back to blogging about aspects of natural dyeing.

  4. Helen - good to have you back! the cozy looks like fun, very much alive:) it suits the handmade tea pot! I still didn't make one for myself, I wanted to but I got so used to putting my little tea pot heater underneath that I forget about it before I can even grab a needle and some wool...

  5. A friend visiting me could not help goggling when she saw and said it looks as if it wants to go for a walk! There is a craze for crochet animals apparently at the moment perhaps I should do some to keep it company!

  6. What lovely crochet work has come out of this time of ill health. Very glad to hear you feel up to short walks with the dog. Thanks for your recent comment on my blog. I'm struggling rather with the post viral fatigue, and like you have found it a good time to read. I can't think of a better book choice than Dommonique Cardon for the one book you could take into hospital, there is so much in that one book.

Best wishes for 2009, I hope it will be a happier and healthier year for you.

  8. Had no idea that you had been so sick Helen. Have not visited for a while. Glad to hear that you are on the mend though.

I love your tea cosy, and all your crazy crochet in the previous post. You have been very busy. Take care.

  9. Thank you all for your kind and supportive comments. I am glad everyone likes the teascosy :) which I have been meaning to make for years Bettina, it has taken being ill to get there! . I am sorry you are having a rough time Dorothy. I think if you have had flu you need a good long time to get better, it does not happen overnight. hi T will pop into your blog soon and see what you are getting up to down under.

  10. I got a kick out of your teacosy, Helen. I have to admit that I wouldn't have guessed except that the spout is a good giveaway. Very glad you're feeling better.
